Sheri Rodriguez is an EdD, a doctorate in education. In this episode https://www.buzzsprout.com/1648825/14389746 of Welcome to the Village she and I are talking about our journeys to becoming high ranking professionals. As women, what are the challenges we faced and that young girls face to reaching these goals? Are we truly living in a world where women are equal, have the same opportunities, respect, and pay? Well, one thing is for sure, nobody can advocate better for yourself than you can. Having a voice and being fearless to demand what you are worth and command respect are qualities that are priceless for everyone, but particularly women.

But, as always, don't forget to help others. Being kind is not a weakness, it is a personality trait that will always help you. Giving back and being grateful is never a bad thing.

We need to show our young people that these traits will help you and build you up for success.

Another thing we should start incorporating, as Sheri points out, is instead of asking where you see yourself in five years, we should ask..... what five things do you see yourself doing in five years? Because your career is important, but your other attributes, passions, and goals are important too.

And again, not only advocating for yourself, but also taking time out for yourself, to breathe, to meditate, to relax and reboot every day. Self-care is not selfish, as you can only help others if you help yourself first.

The career women episode discusses all these important points and more.
